This was my second Hard Case Crime novel. My first was [b:Joyland|13596166|Joyland|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348154483l/13596166._SY75_.jpg|19185026], which I loved immensely and still think about frequently.
I loved this one probably equally, though they were quite different thematically. This one somewhat reminded me of [b:Revival|20926278|Revival|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1510335323l/20926278._SY75_.jpg|27239641] theme-wise (an all-time favorite of mine).
I didn't expect to see familiar concepts and characters (though it is debatable whether it's the same creature) in this novel.
This was a pretty quick and fun read, though at the end, it took a pretty dark turn; as the narrator says, this is a horror story.
