Kyle Freeman is a broke, guerrilla-style documentary filmmaker when a wealthy backer, Max Solomon, hires him to make a film about the Temple of the Last Days—a notorious cult, led by the paranoid Sister Katherine, that ended in a bloody 1975 massacre. The brief is simple: interview the last surviving members and reconstruct the group's history, including the paranormal claims that have never been explained.
But as Kyle and his cameraman Dan follow the shoot from the cult's first London temple to an abandoned French farm to a derelict copper mine in the Arizona desert, the interviews summon far more than testimony: out-of-body experiences, nocturnal visitations, sudden deaths, and ghastly artifacts left in their rooms. Adam Nevill's award-winning Last Days is a documentary told in prose—a relentless, occult horror about what the cult awakened, and why it is watching Kyle now.
