Another Nakamura Seiji’s creation turns into a locked-room murder scene. I met Conan again after the Decagon House case and the ingenious sleuth; Kiyoshi Shimada in their investigative adventure following Conan’s magazine assignment trip with his group of colleagues and members of a university mystery club to cover a festure at the infamous Kamakura Clock Mansion.
Writing was descriptive and quite puzzle-heavy but totally intrigued me. The house tricky structure was absorbing and loved the two alternate narratives that lured me to Conan’s POV who gets trapped inside the Old Wing with a killer hunting for its string of a revenge plot and Shimada who came late and get to stay at the New Wing, unaware that his friend was in a murder mess scene on the other side of the mansion.
Thought it was a straightforward incident with an easy to deduce motive yet there was an enthralling revelation and twist that entangled its years ago backstory, the mansion’s mystery and the whole murder mess right after the killer unveiled. Bit convoluted on the Old Wing chapters but a thrilling howdunnit overall. Loved the friendship of Conan and Shimada as well the trust; it felt like I might be seeing Fukunishi with the duo next time— really liked his interactions with Shimada! 4.2/5*
