Synopsis

La leyenda del ladrón (The Legend of the Thief) is a historical adventure novel by Spanish author Juan Gómez-Jurado, published by Editorial Planeta in 2012. It is set in Seville around 1587, during the reign of Felipe II, in a city sharply divided between wealthy nobles and a teeming underclass of beggars, prostitutes, merchants, and thieves.

The story follows Sancho, a boy rescued as an infant from a village devastated by plague, who grows up on the streets of Seville and becomes an unlikely protector of the city's disadvantaged. As he comes of age, love, passion, and a hunger for revenge shape his path, drawing him into conflicts with corrupt nobles and criminal factions whose outcome will determine the fate of the city itself.

Blending adventure, romance, and social injustice against a richly researched Golden Age Spanish backdrop, the novel has appeared in multiple editions from Planeta and Ediciones B since its original 2012 release.
