Synopsis

Los Angeles, 1930s. When the Chow sisters, May, Gemma, and Peony, find the body of Lulu Wong, the biggest star Chinatown has ever produced, in a stable off the beaten path, they know the corrupt LAPD has no intention of finding her killer. Worse, powerful men in the city want Lulu's death to look like proof that Chinatown is lawless, and lawless neighborhoods can be condemned to make way for the new Union Station rail depot. Alternating between May and Gemma's points of view, the sisters risk everything to solve the murder themselves, honor Lulu's memory, and keep the killer from striking again, all while a city tries to erase the ground they stand on. Stacey Lee's YA noir mystery pairs a real, ugly slice of Los Angeles history with a fast-moving whodunit.
