Kapaemahu
Kapaemahu is a bilingual picture book written in both ʻŌlelo Niʻihau and English, retelling an ancient Hawaiian legend about four mahu healers — Kapaemahu, Kapuni, Kinohi, and Kahaloa — who traveled from Tahiti to Waikiki centuries ago. Each possessed unique healing powers: touch, spirit-healing, diagnosis, and distant healing. Before disappearing, they imbued four large stones with their abilities as a gift to the islanders; generations later, after the story of the mahu had been largely erased from public memory, a young girl discovers that one stone still holds its power.
One of four mahu healers who travels to Hawaii and leaves behind a stone that retains healing powers.
A mahu healer, one of the four original guardians of the stones' power.
A mahu healer who could diagnose ailments by touch; one of the four original guardian spirits.
A mahu healer with a gift for healing from afar, and the fourth of the original guardians.
