Kal Ma' lil-Shukulata (Como agua para chocolate - Like Water for Chocolate)

2015Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing

Synopsis

In early 20th-century Mexico, Tita is bound by a family tradition that forbids her from marrying, forcing her to care for her mother. Her only outlet is cooking, through which she expresses her deepest emotions. Tita falls passionately in love with Pedro, who marries her sister to remain close. This unique novel, structured with a traditional Mexican recipe in each chapter, portrays Tita's struggle against societal constraints and her enduring love, culminating in a dramatic reunion decades later.
