Kafka Tamura, a fiercely self-reliant fifteen-year-old, runs away from his father's house in Tokyo to escape a grim prophecy and to search for the mother and sister who abandoned him years ago. His flight carries him to a quiet private library in the seaside city of Takamatsu, where he takes shelter among the stacks and the people who tend them.

Elsewhere, Satoru Nakata, an aging man who lost his memory and his ability to read after a strange childhood incident, moves through the same world on a quieter frequency. Nakata cannot manage much of ordinary life, but he can talk to cats, and a simple errand to find a lost pet pulls him onto a road he does not fully understand.

As their paths run in parallel, Murakami threads together talking animals, spirits that slip loose from the living, fish that fall from the sky, and a song that seems to hold memory itself. It is a novel about fate and free will, about grief and desire, and about the strange interior places we travel through to become ourselves. Dreamlike and exact at once, it rewards readers willing to sit inside mystery rather than demand that every thread be tied.",2006,"en","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/editions/01/01kjz5qvvrrkfghx8x34z0h319.jpg","https://api.seekquel.app/storage/covers/works-3d/01/01kjq7vve1jp8xd330grwrj6z5.png?v=c231e18bba","LB9rw%B71b|xxuj[o2SL3V;%[X6z","01kjz5qvvrrkfghx8x34z0h319","4.00",4,512,582,0,"complete",false,true,[19,19,19,19,19,24,19,19,19,24],2,[26
"01kjq7vve6v87xc574qr4c7a4y","untitled-pcch","村上春樹","author","Haruki Murakami is a Japanese writer and translator. of "Kafka on the Shore" by deleted_258","For the first 5 pages, i actually grew fond to Crow. I like his existence-- it's like he's making Kafka to be on the safe side. All his words, i love it. Kafka Tamura, such a pretty name. Love his journey, all those stories about his father's treatment towards him, meeting Sakura during the ride, that brilliant Oshima-- oh i love that quarrel scene at the library between 'him' and those women. Serve 'em right!

My favorite character, Nakata-- I wish I have his talent, like really. Not anybody can speak to a cat. He's a miracle. The 'magical' rain he could make whoa! The Rice Bowl Hill incident caught my attention a lot, though i am still wondering what's the relation between the teacher's confession letter to Nakata being in a 'coma'. I like the part when he meets Hoshino-- their adventures, the journeys, and how Hoshino changed a lot after meeting Nakata, it's so heartwarming :'))

And about Johnnie Walker-- i dislike this dude, really. All that poor cats *cry* But his story is a bit unusual (that flute, though). Mr Colonel Sanders too, i don't know what happen to him next.

I pretty much love all Nakata's chapters (that I read Tamura's as fast as i could just so I could get to Nakata). Love the book as a whole, definitely. Kind of spiritual, mysterious and full of wonders but at the same time I get all the excitement and fun while reading it. Probably I would read it again one day.

" When the moon turns blue, when birds fly south..."

Rest well, Satoru Nakata.
