Synopsis

Rome is uneasy. Julius Caesar returns in triumph, and the crowds adore him, but among the senators a fear grows that his ambition will make him king and end the Republic. Cassius, sharp and resentful, works to draw the respected Brutus into a conspiracy, persuading him that killing Caesar would be an act of patriotism rather than murder. Torn between his love for Caesar and his loyalty to Rome, Brutus makes a fateful choice.

The assassination is only the beginning. At Caesar's funeral, Mark Antony turns grief into fury with a single speech, and the city erupts. What follows is civil war, shifting alliances, and the slow unraveling of the conspirators, as the idealism that justified the killing gives way to bloodshed, guilt, and ruin.

One of Shakespeare's most enduring political tragedies, Julius Caesar examines ambition, honor, rhetoric, and the terrible consequences of well-meaning men who believe the ends justify the means. Its questions about power and persuasion remain as urgent now as when it was first staged.
