Synopsis

It's summer 1825, and Josefina's family has traveled to Santa Fe to trade. Before the wagon train even arrives, Josefina meets Patrick, an American scout whose ways seem strange but who she can't help liking. When Papá trusts Patrick with an important trade, Josefina decides to trust him with a small trade of her own. Then Patrick leaves town without paying — for Papá's goods or Josefina's. It looks like a betrayal, until Josefina makes a discovery, late one night, that changes what she thought she knew.

Book five of the American Girl Josefina series, this short historical chapter book continues the story of Josefina Montoya and her sisters growing up on a New Mexico rancho in the 1820s.
