Jane Eyre
As an orphaned child, Jane Eyre is cruelly abused by her aunt, then sent away to a harsh charity school. Despite this, she receives an education and eventually takes a position as governess at Thornfield Hall, the estate of Edward Rochester. Jane and Rochester grow close, but his dark moods and the strange occurrences at Thornfield trouble her. When Jane uncovers the secret Rochester has been hiding, she flees and finds temporary refuge with St. John Rivers before the story resolves her fate.
