Inventions of the Heart
Her heart seeks safety, but trouble may find her even here. After her sister's marriage, Michelle Stiles is left hiding at Two Harts Ranch with its handsome, stubborn owner, Zane Hart. She has managed to stay a step ahead of her stepfather and his devious plans, but if he ever finds her she will no longer be safe.
Zane has problems of his own. He has discovered a gold mine on his property and must work out how to harvest it without setting off a gold rush. Michelle — educated and trained to run her father's business — wants to manage every aspect of the mine, though Zane thinks a woman that clever can still hold some badly misguided ideas. Running the operation will be dangerous work, and he will not put her in harm's way.
Danger reaches her regardless: Michelle is attacked. Going to the sheriff would reveal where she is hiding, but doing nothing may be worse. Inventions of the Heart is the second book in The Lumber Baron's Daughters, Mary Connealy's inspirational historical romance series, published by Bethany House in 2022.
