Synopsis

A horse-racing journalist and amateur artist is drawn into an investigation into a ring of art thieves and forgers after his cousin's wife is murdered during a burglary. As the case takes him from England to Australia and New Zealand, he must uncover the extent of a sophisticated plot to swap genuine paintings with forgeries. The hunt leads him through a series of tense encounters, a chase across the Southern Hemisphere, and a final confrontation with the gang's leader.

Dick Francis (1920–2010) was a British steeplechase jockey turned crime novelist. Born in Coedcanlas, Pembrokeshire, Wales, he served as an RAF pilot in the Second World War before becoming one of Britain's leading National Hunt jockeys, riding over 350 winners and serving as jockey to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother — most famously aboard Devon Loch, which collapsed within sight of victory in the 1956 Grand National. After retiring from racing in 1957 he became a journalist and then a novelist...
