I'm not certain in what genre I could put In Cold Blood, is it fiction, non fiction, a sort of journalism? What I'm aware of is that this is a true story, but unlike any other criminal investigation book, this is so engaging and superbly written as opposed to a sterile recounting of events and facts.
It's also so detailed, very intricate in the description of deep America, the small communities in the middle of nowhere, their values, their way of living life. The story takes place in such a community, and what happens rattles it at its core.
On the other side we have the lost youth of America, whose life is a turmoil, loss, joblessness, alcoholism, etc...
And these two worlds, one of goodness and one of evil, collide when they aren't supposed to.
Truman Capote added so many details, that not only you sympathize and grieve for the victims goes but you also see the humanity of the criminals (a very rotten one, I kept thinking they were just plain imbeciles).
I won't go deeper into this, just know that if you're a fan of true crime and want to try to read something that isn't just facts upon facts, this would be perfect. It's a style that I never encountered and I obviously loved! I've ''known'' Truman Capote via his scandalous gossipy persona, but this is the first time I get acquainted with him as a writer!
