I NEED ANSWERS!! (Yep, open ending)
Man, this book is rich, vibrant, raw, and especially REAL.
In 70s Harlem, we follow the love story of Tish and Fonny. Only Fonny is in jail, falsely accused, imprisoned nonetheless, awaiting trial. And through Tish's recollections we are to witness her blossoming relationship with Alonzo (Fonny's official name).
It's a trap. James Baldwin set a trap for the reader. Because even though it took me a while to dive into the story, once I did, I devoured this book.
Racial disenchantment. Poverty. Political injustice. Social segregation. Police brutality. And again and again RACISM!! What strikes us most is that these topics are still relevant today.
Apparently there has been a movie-adaptation of the book, and from what I saw in the trailers, it really did it justice. I'll have to watch it and see for myself though.
I totally totally recommend this book.
