C.S. Lewis once said, “If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things—praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts— not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs.”
This book is incredibly powerful, and it’s easily one of the most important texts to come out regarding AI in the recent years. It is quite respectable how the authors managed to get their point across to a non-expert readership about lofty ideas of ASI and its implications in less than 300 pages.
I also want to mention the youtube channel and think tank AI in Context for distributing this book for free, globally to anyone who wants to educate themselves on this issue. I would highly recommend watching their video about this book.
