I'm not a fan of insects, so I found it a bit challenging to get used to Atlas's appearance in this book. Although he isn’t a giant insect per se, the antennae, hair, eyes, and insect wings aren't really my cup of tea.
As always, the author crafted an incredible and original world. However, I have to be honest and admit that I got somewhat lost when it came to the scientific details. This made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the book, as understanding the magic system and how it was affecting the world was crucial to comprehend the main conflict and its impact on the ending. While the ending was thrilling and action-packed, I felt like I was missing some pieces to fully appreciate it.
I also would have liked to see more focus on the social worldbuilding. Although some social issues (like racism) are addressed, we only get a glimpse of a few places beyond their home and 2 or 3 side characters, when in the other books the population, traditions and social dynamics are much more detailed.
Despite this, I will continue reading all of this author’s books, as they have become my comfort reads.
