I always thought I would navigate in the sci-fi alien romance genre avoiding the too weird covers, but then tiktok happened and well I’m already on book seven. This year has been full of surprises.
I liked how the author built up the story, it’s not just romance, there’s a lot of worldbuilding that makes the story believable. The romance is really cute and the author did a good job narrating the story and making the lizard dudes kinda good looking? But to be honest I don’t picture them (all of the male characters in the series) like the covers, I think I still put more human-like features in my head.
But it’s a good story with lots of layers on the culture, the different types of aliens, the worlds, the cultural problems in each world, it was really nice. The only thing that I tried not to think about but failed, was that Susan was basically a white hero coming to save the poor primitive species, not in a creepy or racist way but it didn’t feel like the solution came from team work, it was like Susan had all the answers that the “primitive aliens” couldn’t see or understand. I think it takes away a lot of the good things in the book.
