If I say that I understood everything when they were talking about the portals, the doors and the magic, the shadow rocks or dust or whatever, I would be lying, it kinda wrecked my brain.
I always repeat myself when I say that Regine’s worlds are amazing and beautiful, and this one is not the exception, but it failed (at least for me) at simplifying the magical/dimensional aspect of it.
But what had me livid throughout the book was how the people treated Kaida, like everything that made her human was wrong, like she was the only one that had to adapt to the world and the relationship. It upset me that they wanted her to be naked right away only for his sake when she was not comfortable with it and she already had made a huge step by staying in her underwear. Yes, they explained how nudity is not important in their world, in most of these worlds actually, but it’s important to her. There’s a point where they even manipulated her and made her think that she was not taking good care of Cedros because of her human and prudish behavior. Also the fact that it’s somehow her responsIbility to make a grown up man “social”. It was wrong, she had to give up her life just because some dude liked her smell and suddenly she had to also give up all of her culture as well?
I was excited for the book, especially because he is a dragon and I love winged characters. But the book missed the rule that the other ones had, where commitment and adaptation came from the two sides of the marriage.
