Synopsis

Philip Roth tells the story of Iron Rinn, a Newark roughneck and idealistic communist whose life is shattered by blacklisting. Once a popular performer, Rinn finds his world in ruins after serving in WW2 and committing to a better future. This novel explores his denunciation, disgrace, and the cruelty, humiliation, and betrayal that follow.
