This book was a solid addition to the series, though not my favorite. As always, the author does a great job of taking real-world issues and exploring them in a galactic setting. This time, the focus was on the flaws in the prison system—how it should be about rehabilitation but often fails, leaving former inmates without the support they need to break the cycle of crime.
Gaelec’s story was the highlight for me. His character arc felt well-developed. In comparison, Ophelia didn’t stand out as much. I liked her, but I don’t remember much about her, which makes me think her character wasn’t as build up as Gaelec’s.
The world-building was, as usual, creative and well thought out. That said, I would have loved to see more about their future together.
Overall, it was a good read, just not a standout in the series for me.
