Synopsis

هيبتا (Hepta) is a bestselling Egyptian novel by Mohamed Sadek, a romantic and philosophical exploration of love structured around a single, unusual framing device.

The word "Hepta" derives from the Greek for seven, and the novel is organized around the seven stages of love. University professor Osama Hafez — a specialist in human psychology and the search for a life partner — steps up to deliver a six-hour lecture. Through his talk, the book unfolds four intertwined love stories belonging to four characters, using each to illuminate a different phase of romantic attachment, from first attraction to disillusionment and beyond.

Written in an accessible, conversational Egyptian voice and mixing narrative with reflection, Hepta became one of the most popular Arabic novels of its era and was adapted into a hit 2016 film. A warm, thoughtful read for anyone drawn to stories that try to map the anatomy of love.
