How grief and death turns into canibalism in a love story, poverty and survival backdrop. Dark, tragic and unsettling but the writing hooked me with its tale and way it enthrallingly switched POVs in between the two main characters delving deep into each thoughts, backstories and struggles.
“I take back what I said about hiding his body before killing myself. I have a better plan. I will eat you, Gu.”
“Does loving someone mean waiting forever? Even now, with Gu dead, I find myself waiting for him.”
Of existential longing, one’s possessive desire and detachment. I liked how ‘hunger’ was observed with its vast meaning throughout— the crave of attention, that feeling of being disposed by society, no stability and poverty hit. A short writing but very deep in its emotional and psychological exploration. 4/5*
