Synopsis

Jamie Prescott is a horror-movie obsessive who can recite exactly what you should never do in a slasher. So when she and her best friend Laurie sign up for a speed-dating night, she expects nothing worse than a parade of mediocre men and some street food afterward. Instead, the lights go out — and when they come back on, one of her dates is dead, and he isn't the last.

Trapped in the venue with a masked killer stalking the survivors, Jamie has one advantage the others don't: an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre she's suddenly living inside. As the bodies pile up, she pieces together an unsettling theory about why the killer is doing this and who they're really trying to impress — all while, absurdly, catching feelings for two of the other survivors.

How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates is a gleefully bloody slasher rom-com that plays horror tropes for both scares and laughs. It's a fast, gory, genre-savvy romp for readers who like their body counts high and their meet-cutes dangerous.

About the author

S
Shailee Thompson

Shailee Thompson is an author who writes women with smart mouths, soft hearts and strong wills... then she puts them in the deepest of sh*t. Her debut novel, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates (Out February 2026!), is a Slasher Rom-Com that proves all is fair in love and gore. When not writing or talking about her characters like they’re real people, you can find her kidnapping her friends' dogs or competing with the person next to her at the gym (...yes, Pilates can be competitive).
