Well done Sarah J. Maas on yet another successful novel! This book took me on a journey, a journey which was full of anticipation, action, romance, and heartbreak. I honestly didn't want to have to put it down. Once I was finished, I just wanted to hug the book - It is a story I will remember and cherish, a new favorite.
You really got to experience the character development of Bryce from the moment you began reading this book. She started out as a party goer, a do anything girl and due to the death of her friend went through a really tough time. The constant harassment due to her being different and being viewed as lesser portrayed the harsh reality Bryce experienced. This is similarly seen through Hunt, a condemned fallen angel, who has to serve his sentence, one kill at a time. The connection between these two characters was well written and well developed. The constant banter between them kept the plot interesting. They also allowed for a more emotional portrayal of their characters - when hunt came back from a kill and Bryce comforted him, they were equal in this moment, and as mentioned in the book they in a sense were the same, mirrors of each other.
The plot was engaging - so much so I only put it down to eat and sleep... I loved every second of reading it. The plot twists (cough the dock scene ifykyk) kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me turning the page.
There are honestly not enough words to even describe how much I loved this book and I could probably continue to write and gush about all day. I could not recommend this book enough, I know the length may seem daunting but it is well worth it. In respect to the length, it is well split up into parts.
Again! 5 out of 5 stars, an amazing read! I cannot wait for more books!
