Casey Fletcher, a hard-drinking actress mourning the recent drowning death of her husband, retreats to her family's cabin on a quiet Vermont lake to escape the tabloids. With little to do but drink and watch the water, she takes up her binoculars and starts observing the glamorous couple in the glass-walled house across the lake: former supermodel Katherine Royce and her tech-entrepreneur husband, Tom.
When Casey pulls Katherine from the water one afternoon, an unlikely friendship forms. But the more closely Casey watches, the more the Royces' seemingly perfect marriage begins to fray at the edges. Then Katherine vanishes, and Casey becomes convinced that something terrible has happened behind those tall windows.
A modern homage to Hitchcock's Rear Window, The House Across the Lake is a tense, twist-laden thriller about grief, obsession, and the danger of assuming you understand what you're looking at. As Casey pushes for answers, her own unreliable perceptions and buried secrets rise to the surface, and the still water of the lake proves to be hiding far more than she imagined.
