The third Elif Shafak's book I read, and what's impressive is no book resembles the other. Usually when you read several books by the same writer you start to notice a pattern. The Bastard of Istanbul dealt with modern Istanbulite society and women in it, Forty Rules of Love was about Soufism and Honour is about Kurdish and Turkish immigrants in London and the identity crisis they have to face. Pembe's destiny is at the center of this story, Kurdish woman who married a Turkish man, they moved to London hoping for a better life. While Adem, the husband left his wife for a Russian stripper, Pembe has to live surrounded by traditional patriarchal minds, not to spoil anything it all escalates to a crime of honor, with constant flashbacks (something dear to Elif Shafak)...but the truths are always more complicated than what they seem, the characters have layers of depth, stories are interweaved to create an intricate piece of life.
