Hello Beautiful

Hello Beautiful opens with William Waters, a gifted but emotionally guarded basketball player from a bleak, joyless childhood, who finds an entirely new kind of family when he falls for Julia Padavano. Julia is one of four close-knit sisters — alongside Sylvie, Cecelia, and Emeline — in a warm, working-class Chicago family built around books and each other. William marries into that warmth, and for a while it seems to be enough to counter the emptiness he grew up with.

A profound loss during William's college basketball career sends him into a depression that fractures his marriage and, in turn, his relationship with the sisters who had folded him into their family. Ann Napolitano follows the ripple effects across decades, tracing how William's collapse reshapes Julia's ambitions, Sylvie's romantic life, and the bonds between all four Padavano sisters.
