Emma Cline is an American novelist and short-story writer, born in Sonoma County, California, in 1989. Her debut novel The Girls, inspired by the Manson cult, follows a fourteen-year-old girl drawn into a California cult; it spent three months on the New York Times bestseller list and won the Shirley Jackson Award.
