Synopsis

In old York in 1851, during a deep and snowy December, Lizzy Grimm fights to keep her late father's eccentric antique shop, Grimm Curiosities, from going under. The city is famous for its hauntings, and that reputation soon proves more literal than she expected. Lizzy meets Antony Carlisle, whose sister has fallen into the same baffling condition as Lizzy's own mother, both rendered silent and unreachable after claiming to have spoken with ghosts. Working together to understand what has befallen the women they love, the two find a crucial clue in her father's prized collection of rare books on old folktales, enchantments, and yuletide myths. Each illustrated passage seems to open a doorway onto something ancient and seductive, and the volumes turn out to be keys to a deeper mystery, one that may demand unleashing one of the season's darkest legends to solve. Atmospheric and gothic with a strong vein of holiday eeriness, the story blends ghosts, cursed books, portals, and a slow-building romance between two people drawn together by shared dread and stubborn hope. Set against the snowbound streets of a haunted Victorian city, it follows a resourceful heroine determined to save both her shop and the people the dark has taken.
