Synopsis

For centuries Helia has served as the Sage of Hope, one of the chosen few who embody and protect the values that sustain the many realms of Paperworld. Those realms are connected through the Great Library of Tomorrow, where magical portals are governed by the Book of Wisdom, an ancient guide that has always counseled the Sages in times of need. That order shatters when Helia and her partner Xavier, the Sage of Truth, are attacked while visiting the Rose Garden in the realm of Silvyra. Xavier gives his life so that Helia can escape and warn the others, but when she returns home she finds the Book of Wisdom inexplicably silent. As a shadowy enemy known as the Ash Man grows stronger, threatening to extinguish the openness, love, and creativity the Sages defend, Helia races to uncover where this foe came from and whether anything can stop him. Searching across the realms for clues to his origin, she must hold on to hope even as the foundations of her world give way. Opening an epic fantasy trilogy, the story builds an imaginative cosmos of linked worlds bound by books and ideas, following a grieving guardian who carries the burden of defending everything her order stands for.
