Synopsis

This ethnography explores the global and transnational aspects of gay identity through the lives of Filipino immigrants in New York City. It questions conventional ideas about the evolution of a gay world and the integration of queer individuals into modern gay culture. The book argues that gay identity is not a linear progression but is shaped by the everyday struggles and experiences of queer people of color, particularly in the context of diaspora and immigration. It highlights how these individuals forge unique paths to queer modernity and citizenship, revealing the often contradictory realities of queer globalization.
