Carrying a theme of crime thriller that was told in dual timelines with an unsolved murder mystery happening in the 80s to present-day case of death threats received by a judge, Girl, Forgotten started when a US Marshal Andrea Oliver (Andy) arrived in Longbill Beach for her first assignment to protect the judge with a hidden task in finding justice to Emily Vaughn; the girl that was killed 40 years ago during a grisly attack on the night of her school prom.\n\nA taut case yet quite decent for its style of writing; straightforward and not that darkly driven for a thriller (at least to me). I don’t fancy much on its slow pacing storyline but I love how twisty and cunningly it goes with bunch of red herrings that making me go perplexed sometimes; the motive (thanks Andy for highlighting on how Emily’s face was beaten to a pulp that I finally know on how the killer hated her so much) was intimidating (jealousy is cruel tsk~) and love how dense and riveting the connection in between the past and current cases— those red flags friends (the prejudice was brutal), of domestic violence and the depraved dynamics of most of the characters, somehow it sadden me a bit to read Esther’s confession. \n\nI like Andy’s tough personality and the fact she was a marshal instead of an officer or a detective. Her partner Catfish Bible was fun too. Nick Harp’s character (he was one of Emily’s friend and happened to be Andy’s psycho bent on mass murder criminal dad) added more interesting perspective to the storyline although he did not appear that much in this instalment. I was expecting a thorough exploration for Wexler too because he was said to be a copycat of Harp but the plot focusing more on the procedural and how Andy would unravel the mystery that his insight and characterization were seemed to be neglected a bit. Regardless, that conversation between Andy and her mom on how to deal with a manipulative psychopath was engaging much for me. \n\nThat chapter 11 making me intrigued with pre-narrative of Nick Harp; might go for book 1, perhaps.
