I did not start in the John Gwynne worlds with the Faithful and the Fallen and on to the Blood and Bone series then on to the Bloodsworn Trilogy as most people have done. Shadow of the Gods was my introduction into the worlds, and I really didn’t know what to expect. Now that I am completely through the trilogy I am blown away and cannot wait to get my hands on the other series by John Gwynne!!
In Fury of the Gods, I really enjoyed the character development throughout the series. I absolutely loved some of the characters and how they developed these great senses of humor. I also absolutely hated some of the characters and completely understood why they were widely hated throughout but I also could have easily been swayed to play devil’s advocate for those characters because they really thought it was the right thing with the knowledge that they had access to. The romance was light, but I think it was the perfect amount, especially with the timing of when it happened. The moral of the story was friendship and coming together for a common cause. All roads lead to one ending. Sure, great and not so great people got the axe (literally) but it was done flawlessly.
Points I found very helpful; the sum up of each character and their deeds in the previous book was something I hadn’t really seen, and it was so great to have along with the pronunciation guide for the names which was helpful. I also appreciate how the author didn’t make the names so hard to read or understand that you inevitably just guess at how it supposed to be said.
One big loose end did not get tied up. What will happen with the Iskidan? Will there be a new series? I am very excited to find out!!
Thank you to John Gwynne for immersing me into this fantasy epic, thank you to Orbit Books and Netgally for sending the ARC book.
