Frostbite

A wave of Strigoi attacks on royal Moroi families sends the students of St. Vladimir's Academy to a heavily guarded ski resort for the winter holidays. Rose Hathaway arrives already off balance: her guardian mother Janine has resurfaced in her life, and Dimitri's attention seems to be drifting toward another guardian, Tasha Ozera.

Frustrated and reckless, Rose lets slip what she has learned about how the Strigoi are hunting, and she, Mason, Eddie and Mia slip away from the lodge to go after them in Spokane. The plan collapses almost immediately, and the cost of it falls on people Rose loves.

The second Vampire Academy novel turns Rose's training into something real, and pulls her feelings for Dimitri out of the abstract.
