Synopsis

Fragments is the second novel in Dan Wells's young-adult science fiction series the Partials Sequence, published by Balzer + Bray in February 2013. Kira Walker has found a cure for RM, the engineered plague that left humanity clinging to survival in East Meadow, Long Island — but a cure is not the same as an answer, and the fragile truce between the last humans and the genetically engineered Partials is already breaking down.

Kira sets out from the settlement into the wasteland beyond, tracing the remains of ParaGen, the corporation behind both the plague and the Partials, in search of the people and the records that might explain why either was made — and whether either species can survive what comes next. Allied with two Partials for a journey across a ruined continent, she confronts new factions, old betrayals, and revelations about her own origins.

Kirkus Reviews called it "a fine and frightening post-apocalyptic thriller," and it continues the tense, survival-driven tone of Partials while widening the scope of the world Wells built in the first book.
