Synopsis

Captain Horatio Hornblower finds himself a prisoner of war facing a death sentence in Napoleonic France. Along with his first lieutenant and a wounded coxswain, he must stage a daring escape and navigate a dangerous journey through enemy territory to reach safety. This maritime adventure follows his struggle to regain his freedom and return to the British fleet against all odds.

Cecil Scott Forester, an Englishman, was born in Cairo in 1899, the son of a British army officer. He was educated in London, and for a time he studied medicine. After a World War I stint in the infantry, however, he decided to be a poet. This was a shortlived pursuit and he soon turned to biography and fiction.
