Shimmer is a blue dragon shifter from the Dragon Reaches. After a mistake she would rather not discuss, she is exiled Earthside and handed over to Alex Radcliffe, the vampire who runs the Fly by Night Magical Investigations Agency, to work off her sentence.

Earthside culture is its own ordeal — but the agency's cases are worse. Every time Shimmer turns around, somebody is trying to kill them, and the investigation that begins as a routine haunting refuses to stay simple.

Alex, meanwhile, is as gorgeous as he is exasperating. First in Yasmine Galenorn's Fly by Night series, set in the same world as her Otherworld books but readable on its own, this is urban fantasy with a strong paranormal-romance streak and a supporting cast of djinn, werewolves and shifters.
