Synopsis

As president of a major pharmaceutical empire, Peter Haskell appears to have everything: power, position, a career, and a family for which he has sacrificed a great deal. Compromise has been the through-line of his life, integrity its foundation. Olivia Thatcher is the wife of a famous senator, a woman who has given herself over to her husband's ambitions until there is nothing of her own left. She is married to a man she once loved and no longer knows, and when her son died a part of her died with him.

On the night of a bomb threat they meet by accident at the Ritz. In the Place Vendome and then in a cafe in Montmartre, two strangers lay their lives bare — Peter, suddenly facing a professional future in jeopardy; Olivia, no longer certain of anything except that she cannot go on. When she disappears, only Peter suspects it is not foul play.

Five days in Paris is all they have. They go back to their separate lives, but nothing is the same, and each must decide what they are willing to compromise and what they are not.
