Synopsis

The First Law trilogy follows a handful of deeply flawed characters — Logen Ninefingers, a legendary and self-loathing barbarian warrior; Sand dan Glokta, a crippled ex-soldier turned state torturer; and Jezal dan Luthar, a vain young nobleman — as the wizard Bayaz maneuvers them all toward a war whose true stakes none of them fully grasp.

Joe Abercrombie subverts classic fantasy-quest structure at every turn, using dark humor and morally compromised protagonists to undercut the genre's usual heroics, across The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, and Last Argument of Kings.
