Synopsis

Fence, Vol. 4: Rivals continues C. S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad's YA fencing series. Tryouts are over and the King's Row Boys School fencing team must finally come together — but before they can call themselves a team, they have to face MacRobertson, the school that eliminated them from the state championships the year before.

Nicholas Cox, still fighting to prove he belongs at the prestigious private school, has to put aside his rivalry with teammate Seiji Katayama and learn to trust him on the strip. As the two are forced into closer partnership, their competitive edge starts to soften into something neither of them expected.

This volume marks a turning point for the series: the individual competitors of the first three volumes start becoming an actual team, while the slow-burn tension between Nicholas and Seiji moves closer to the foreground.
