Fence is written in an over-the-top dramatic style very reminiscent of manga with which I have a love-hate relationship going on, but thankfully it wasn't too obtrusive to my enjoyment. C.S. Pacat makes it work, she is a great writer after all, and the story kept me at the edge of my seat despite the clichéd tropes that come with this particular style.
