Synopsis

Felix Love has never been in love—an irony he is painfully aware of. A Black, queer, transgender teenager in New York, Felix is talented, guarded, and quietly afraid that he is one marginalization too many ever to be truly wanted. When someone posts photos of him before his transition alongside his deadname in a public gallery at his art school, the cruelty pushes him toward a plan for revenge that quickly spirals into a complicated, unexpected love triangle.

As Felix schemes, flirts, and misreads the people around him, he is forced to look honestly at his anger, his family, and his own shifting understanding of who he is. The path to figuring out his identity—and to believing he deserves love—turns out to run straight through the friendships and feelings he almost sabotages.

Kacen Callender's award-winning young-adult novel is a tender, funny, and clear-eyed coming-of-age story about gender, first love, and the hard, hopeful work of learning to accept yourself.
