This is a Dark Romance/Fantasy book so I would suggest staying away from it if it’s not something that you usually read because these characters are in the pitch black side of the “morally gray” spectrum.
My favorite part of the book it’s the ravens. I found it very original how they shift into several ravens with a special one that carries the magic and it’s the one with the bond to their fated mate. it’s something that I really really liked and wasn’t expecting, even the author switches the narrative to plural when the shift occurs.
I don’t know why I thought it was going to be a less developed story or that I wasn’t going to like it but I couldn’t put it down, I was obsessed with the story and the characters. Maybe more worldbuilding and complexity in the political conflict would have made it much better, but it’s a good book.
There are some things that didn’t make me enjoy it as much. They’re not as bothersome as to put the book down but I feel the need to point them out:
• It stressed me out how naive Galantia was, it’s justified from how overprotective her mother was, I just hope that she grows after all she had to go through in this book and it’s not a permanent part of her personality.
•I think it’s a personal thing but “belly” seems like a very childish word to me and it's used 56 times mostly to describe desire, longing or physical sexual reactions and it just broke the moment for me.
•There was explicit sexual abuse on page (see tw) in the past for some characters and I didn’t like how its described as something that defined their violent sexual behavior and “evil desires” as adults.
But in general it’s a good dark romance and even though it’s predictable the ending broke my heart for poor Galantia and I immediately started the second one.
