<spoiler> I rarely ever say that the movie is better than the book , but there , I said it. The 2015 - Far from the Madding Crowd is just swoon.
Let’s just say I loved Gabriel. And Bathsheba , though a very strong and powerful female character ( whom I adore) just couldn’t get through to me. I don’t know if this is because the story is written in 1874 and I don’t really relate to Hardy’s writing style. I need to give Tess of the d’Ubervilelles a go before I form my opinion on him.
If this was supposed to be a romance , and I think it is a romance , then there is a serious lack of romance here. Bathsheba and her three suitors ( Gabriel , Farmer Boldwood and Sergent Francis Troy ) are the main plot of this book. What fantastic , and different characters all of them are but sadly , no romance at all. The movie just took it up a notch.
In conclusion , at least it is written better than Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights.
