A light and fun premise of a grumpy vs sunshine sports romance— meet the pro golfer, Wells Whitaker; the bad boy of the golf course who thinks his avid fangirl, the redhead Josephine Doyle as a nuisance. During one tournament, due to his bad performances, Wells suddenly decided to quit resulting in a heated argument in between him and Josephine. They both part ways in a messy after-quarrel until weeks later a hurricane suddenly struck Palm Beach and has destroyed Josephine’s family-owned pro shop. A short visit by Wells was unexpected, but he came with an offer that Josephine can’t resist if she wanted to rebuild her shop again— a caddie job to earn the money if Wells can get back on the tour.
I love how the narrative started and ways the author executed the backstories and exposition for both Wells and Josephine. A boss-employee plot that went quite sweet and charming with bit of career conflict and attitude madness yet can be both swoon-worthy and adorably hinged. I appreciate how the author intricately crafted Josephine’s type 1 diabetes with care and awareness also complemented it with Wells’ dynamic along their progress— love the attention he gave esp towards Josephine’s condition despite being known as a cold-hearted person.
An easy to guess love story with nothing too twisty for me, just a go with the flow sort of with that pinch of other subplots in between; of family, friendship, on trust and one’s vulnerability— green flag to both in being too cutely supportive to each other. A little crisis and slow-moving narrative nearly the end but the epilogue really wrapped their tale so well. Those cute banters, humor and their chemistry— I was having a good mood after finishing it. Getting that peek of Talullah and Burgess for book 2 in the series so perhaps another Bailey in my wishlist, I guess.
