Synopsis

Fable for the End of the World is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the corporation Caerus controls society through crushing debt, using defaulters as unwilling contestants in the Lamb's Gauntlet, a livestreamed hunt-to-the-death. Inesa, who runs a taxidermy shop with her brother in a half-sunken town, is horrified to learn her mother has sold her into the Gauntlet to cover a debt. She has spent years surviving the wasteland already, and with her brother's help she intends to make it out alive. Hunting her is Melinoë, a Caerus assassin shaped by neural conditioning into a weapon who has never failed to kill her mark, but who is quietly breaking down after her last kill went publicly wrong. As the chase across the wasteland stretches on, both women start to question what they've survived for, and what, if anything, they might feel for each other.
