Listen, I'm not going to sit here and pretend this book is winning any literary awards... because it's not. And honestly? That's perfectly fine. This is the Fast & Furious of fantasy novels; ridiculous, breakneck, and completely aware of how absurd it all is. The fourth-wall-breaking, trope-skewering protagonist had me grinning like an idiot more times than I care to admit. There's this moment early on where you're thinking, "Wait, should I actually be enjoying this?" But then you just... let go. You surrender to the ride.
I'll admit, the first book had that extra spark of "hehehe, this is so different!" novelty that this sequel can't quite recapture. And yeah, I saw the big twist barreling toward me from a mile away. But here's the thing: none of that diminished the sheer fun of getting there. Sometimes you just need a story that knows exactly what it is and doesn't apologize for it. Four and a half stars of unapologetic, popcorn-munching joy.
