Ethical Slut : A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities
The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities is a non-fiction self-help guide to consensual non-monogamy, first published by Greenery Press in 1997. It was written by Dossie Easton and Janet W. Hardy, with Hardy crediting the first edition to the pseudonym "Catherine A. Liszt."
The book presents polyamory and open relationships as legitimate, ethical lifestyle choices grounded in honesty and communication, rather than as failures of monogamy. It covers foundational concepts of non-monogamy, practical relationship management including jealousy and conflict, and sexual practices within non-monogamous partnerships.
Since 1997 the book has sold more than 200,000 copies and become a widely cited foundational text within polyamorous communities, sometimes referred to as the "poly bible." Revised editions followed in 2009 and 2017, the latter published by Ten Speed Press and updated to address dating apps and gender variance.
