⭐⭐⭐.5
✦ TLDR ✦
The setting of this book is scenic and cozy. It made me want to curl up with a cup of tea and possibly book a trip to whatever the real life equivalent of the Firefly resort is. I had some character issues just over halfway through, but overall it was a nice, cozy and cute read.
✦ Writing ✦
The writing was nice; very scenic, it felt like I was looking at a picture. The character descriptions were well done, it’s like I’ve known them for ages. It wasn’t overly complex, which is nice for a cozy romance read. It honestly made a great palette cleanser between some heavy fantasies I was reading.
✦ Pacing ✦
The book starts out with a little intro and a bit of mystery into our main characters backstory, just like all our favourite romances. What I do love is that the romance between the two characters doesn’t just happen overnight. There is a genuine build of strangers, to acquaintances, to friends, to more. You could feel the romance building through each activity and I just love that slow-burn.
✦ Characters ✦
Now I loved the reverse grumpy x sunshine, normally books make the male character the grumpy one and I really loved this mix up. I found it wholesome and cute. Now, my problem is with the main character just over halfway through the book. Up until that point, I enjoyed her cynical comments that started to defrost. But, (without spoiling too much here), when HE rocks up, I just found that her character became unlikeable and annoying.
Some might say she acted realistically, I say she was stupid, annoying and very hot and cold. I didn’t like that progression. She came a little better by the end, but that diversion honestly took me out of the book and made it hard for me to pick it up.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the crew at Aria for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
